PRIMARY SCHOOL IN OGUN STATE

A letter has been sent to the principal of the school who is desperate for help. The school consists of two buildings; a row of class rooms and a smaller building.

As a start the group intends to work on the small building first, fixing that as a primary goal for the time being. As can be seen in the pictures, the school is in dire need and working with the students can be a good way of bridging the gap with their parents and the school in general.

A part of the wall of the building of primary focus needs to be rebuilt and plastered. When the strucure is reinforced then interior work would include, new desks and furniture for the class room, securing the building, new blackboard. Although securing the building is mentioned the only problem the school seems to face in terms of insecurity, is youths in the area using the classrooms for questionable purposes, meaning the students come to school the next they to find used condoms lying around the place.

Based on information being received, 150 blocks would be required to rebuild the part of the wall that needs rebuilding. Labour would also need to be hired to do the work, etc.

As a result, the target amount of funding to raise for this project would be set soon. For those who are willing to donate funding, a means of payment using paypal is being set up. For those in Nigeria who might prefer an alternate means of payment, a method would also be worked out. Considering this is the first project of this type the group is embarking on, funding is only open to members at the moment. The hope is that the group can complete a project which would give it a base to stand on for the future referrals when other projects of this nature are being embarked on.

Beyond funding, other matters regarding logistics of the project would also benefit from help of members. Aid in areas like getting good quotes for materials and labour so we spend funds efficiently would also be helpful.

For those who decide to donate, whatever money is donated and collected is going to be posted on the forum (and possibly the website), names can be withheld if that is the wish of the donors. How all money is spent is also going to be posted, and whatever is left over is also going to be posted. The whole idea is making this process as open as possible.

The floor is open to questions and contributions. I look forward to reading your replies.

@Sky Blue

Thanks for the good work you've done so far. I really appreciate your efforts in ensuring that development comes to Nigerian schools. You have been a strong member of the NDM. I'm ready to support this current initiative of refurbishing the Primary School in Ogun State. The school is obviously in a state of disrepair and abandonment. I am willing to contribute a substantial amount of money for the project. I need more information about how to get the cash across to you. I am looking towards sending the money by the end of this month. We need to start something to show people we are serious about this.

I also feel the project proposal and the pictures of the school should be sent to all NDM members via email. Many members do not visit this site constantly and they may not be aware of what is going on. It will also be good if a small library is set up for the school. I believe things are going to pick up soon concerning our activities as NDM members. I'm not in Nigeria at the moment due to a heavy schedule of International work, but I am ready when it comes to finances. Let me hear from you, Sky Blue. Keep the good work up. Cheers.

I really appreciate ur concern and contribution.

We have talked about how such contribution should be made, but you know Nigeria, we will always want to ask many questions.

As we all know that the registration of NDM is still on process in Nigeria, and without the registration documents, we can't open an account in Nigeria where people could donate to. If we should open account in the name of someone among us, people might question such actions.

But i think a paypal account has been setup by sam. or you can contact bola on more information about that.

Just to update. The small building is going to be knocked down. The intention now is to build a new existing classroom on an already existing foundation (image below).
